Zen was constructed in South Africa by Simon Bonger at Bonger Marine. Epoxy resin and tri-axle glass laminated with ATC core-cell foam where used for the hull, decks, pilot house and major bulkheads. This provided Zen with a proven superior weight to strength ratio structure that could be depended on in off shore conditions, without sacrificing weight and performance.

The independently moving hulls are connected with uni-directional carbon fiber and epoxy cross beams bonded to the epoxy/fiberglass foam cored bulkheads, giving Zen added strength without piling on weight.

The dagger-boards on Zen are cored fiberglass/epoxy construction passing through fiberglass/epoxy construction trunk with up and down controls leading back to the forward cockpit.

Zen's twin spade rudders are fiberglass composite with solid Aqumet 19 rudder stocks supported with low friction bearings at hull entry.

For added safety, both hulls on Zen are equipped with a collision bulkhead.

Fiberglass hulls cored with PVC foam with Awlgrip paint finish on the exterior. Skeg keels with dagger boards offering board up draft of 3'2" and board down draft of 7'8". The rudders are semi-balanced spades. Other features include:

The painted decks are an AwlGrip white with a nonskid texture. The forward cockpit and aft deck also feature a Flexiteak composite decking system that was installed in 2007. The deck also features:
